This is what people usually think of when they hear of ‘image montage’.
But there’s more to it than that. Montage means to take part of one image
and then merge it into another. When you do this with people, you can create
images where they can jump from one place to another.
Just think of the possibilities... Here’s some examples of what I mean
Did you spot the hand colouring as well, and notice the bride...
This was a particularly difficult one to do and very important to the family I did it for.
So as to fit the chap to our right of the bride in, I had to divide the whole photo,
digitally that is, I never touch the original photo’, to make room for him.
It was then a case of ‘rebuilding’ the gap created by the divide.
Here, the top image is a snap of a Holy Well somewhere in Cornwall. It’s
waters have healing powers. When a very dear old friend of ours showed it
to me and told us that her son was terminally ill, I asked if I could borrow it.
They are a very religious Catholic family. I pondered, wondering just what I
could do with it for them and came up with this. I combined a part of her picture
with the picture, bottom left, to get the new picture, bottom right. She’s
never stopped thanking me.
